"Creating this mural as a homeless Trans woman, living from shelter to shelter, allowed me to reflect on the challenges many trans folks face day to day in the district. This mural represents self-empowerment of the transgender community across the world. Growing up as a Trans woman of color, I have faced many obstacles that are often invisible to mainstream society. Living in the Washington, DC area has helped define the woman I am today. Trans folks face discrimination every day, so I wanted to use art as a form of universal love and self-expression to draw attention to the strength of the trans community." ~Ameirah Neal
This new mural is located in the HIPS Center for Health & Achievement.
